"Many Faces for the Center": North Carolina Pottery Center, Seagrove, NC

"Many Faces for the Center", the annual fund raising auction for the North Carolina Pottery Center will be taking place on April 18th.  Bruce is trying his hand at making face flasks.  We will choose one of these to donate to the North Carolina Pottery Center.  The auction will be free and open  to the public.  Starting at 2:30 pm in the afternoon, there will be a silent auction which lasts until 4:00 pm.  From 4:00-5:00 there will be lite hors d'oeuvres, and plenty of conversation until the live auction begins at 5:00.  Pottery will be donated by potters from all over North Carolina for this important annual fundraiser.

The North Carolina Pottery Center is a wonderful museum and working educational center dedicated to the preservation of historical North Carolina pottery, and the continuing  contemporary pottery heritage.  North Carolina's pottery communities are found from the mountains to the sea, and represent a wide-ranging diversity of styles, techniques, and history.

Bruce is venturing into new territory (for him), as these are his first face pots.

Go Bruce, Go!! Those look incredible. Some pots make me feel funny in the chest and those are among the ranks, and they're still green! I cannot wait to see what they look like once they are done.

I love this approach! I can't wait to see how they come out! I haven't been as successful as you with coming up with a face idea. But next week hopefully I'll get to work on a few ideas. I may be going in a more conventional direction with mine. I just hope I can get them done in time. Later cousin.

Yeah, this face pot thing is turning out to be much more engaging than I would have expected. I often do need such challenges(Face pot for the NCPC), to get me to try delving into new explorations of clay manipulation for myself. Thanks all for encouragement.

I really like your take on the face jugs. Can't wait to see how they turn out

Hi Guys, just checking in to see what's going on -- Tim told me he needs a pottery fix soon. Looks like April is the month to head down. The faces look very intriguing, can't wait to see how they come out. Are these going to be available at your kiln opening? I don't like the traditional face jugs -- they are just freaky but not in a good way. By the way, the white caterpillar we got from you guys in Raleigh has been good company. A very friendly fellow. Hope to make it down in April, Julia, Tim and family, from Cary (near Trader Joe's . . .)

Thanks Brian and Julia. I have to admit that I haven't visualized these pieces all the way to the finished state. There are so many choices. I will certainly have them done by the end of March or I'm in real trouble. Julia, look forward to you,Tim and family coming to visit . Check out Michael Klines post on Cousins in Clay linked to his comment.
